Welcome to MY TURN.

According to the National Bullying Prevention Service, one in five students report being bullied at school and sadly 41% of those students believe that it will continue. The consequences of bullying are staggering. The CDC reports that bullied students are at increased risk for depression, anxiety, sleep difficulties, lower academic achievement, and dropping out of school. Fortunately, through awareness and anti-bullying programs, schools who implement interventions for bullying are able to reduce incidents by nearly 25%.

As such, the need for an increased focus on Anti-Bullying became apparent and Coach Young and his team made a commitment to make a difference by the development of “MY TURN,” a program designed to mitigate bullying and foster a more inclusive environment in schools. MY TURN was started to promote a safe environment for learning through teaching student’s kindness and compassion. Here at MY TURN, we believe by inspiring children to have confidence within themselves and in their positive relationships, they will be able to have an impact that will follow them for the rest of their lives. Our goal is to change the perspective on anti-bullying by giving kids the confidence to take action within their schools. October is National Bullying Awareness Month, so to kick off the MY TURN blog series, Jonathan Kabongo sits down with Coach Young to discuss the inspiration and vision for the organization.
